When: Monday, Feb 2, 2026 7:00 PM, MST
Where: Idaho Fish & Game Building, Boise
Matt Miller is editorial director of Cool Green Science, the conservation blog of The Nature Conservancy and author of the book Fishing Through the Apocalypse. A lifelong naturalist and outdoor enthusiast he has covered stories on science and nature around the globe and is a recipient of the Jade Award, the highest conservation writing honor of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. Matt has worked for The Nature Conservancy for 22 years and is an avid hunter, angler, hiker and backyard nature enthusiast. He lives in Boise with his wife and young son.
Matt is enthused to present to MWOC a topic that resonates with him, “The Miracle of Palmyra.” It is about the Palmyra Atoll, a remote island chain with no permanent inhabitants 1000 miles south of Hawaii. Few people know about it and Matt’s story of his time there and its conservation, “... is really fascinating with some twists and turns.” He weaves that story around what he does at Cool Green Science and the kinds of stories they cover.
The meeting location is the Idaho Fish & Game Headquarters in Boise, at 600 South Walnut Street, Boise 83712. But you won’t find us at the main front door. You will use a side door, on the river side, south-east side, of the building). (For someone facing the front entrance to the building, the entrance will be on the right side.) A club member will be available to open the locked door between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. that evening. So please plan to arrive during that half hour.
The Board will also be holding its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. that evening. Members are welcome to attend.
