Janette and Wendell’s Tour du Mt. Blanc Hike
This past July, club members Janette Young and Wendell Martin along with good friends Gayle and Paul Poorman traveled to Chamonix, France to hike the classic “Tour du Mt. Blanc”. This was a self-guided hike with logistics supplied by the travel company “Alpine Exploratory” based in the UK.
The Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is one of Europe’s most iconic long-distance hiking routes, circling the Mont Blanc massif—the highest mountain in Western Europe at 4,808 meters (15,774 ft). Spanning approximately 170 kilometers (105 miles), the 4 hikers were treated to grandstand views of the Mont Blanc massif from most angles, crossing from France into Italy, then into Switzerland and finally back into France. The combination of high mountain passes, pastoral valleys, charming villages and typical Savoyard and Valaisian food, made for a wonderful 12-day, 13-night walking holiday.
Wendell will talk about and share photos of the group’s adventure from last July.
The meeting location is the Idaho Fish & Game Headquarters in Boise, at 600 South Walnut Street, Boise 83712. But you won’t find us at the main front door. You will use a side door, on the river side, south-east side, of the building). (For someone facing the front entrance to the building, the entrance will be on the right side.) A club member will be available to open the locked door between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. that evening. So please plan to arrive during that half hour.
The Board will also be holding its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. that evening. Members are welcome to attend.
