Adventures in Wyoming’s Wind River Mountains at our Dec. 1 meeting
This past September our Club President Craig Raese made his third attempt at summiting Gannett Peak in the Wind River Range of Wyoming. It required four days of backpacking, followed by a summit day of glacier travel, ice climbing, rock climbing, “rappelling” and crossing the “Boulder Field from Hell” twice.
He was successful, and he’s going to tell us about it at our December 1, 2025, Mountain West Club meeting.
Wyoming’s Wind River Mountains are some of the most spectacular, beautiful and remote mountains in the lower 48 states. The mountain range contains the largest glaciated area in the Rocky Mountains with over 30 peaks topping 13,000 feet. At 13,810 feet, Gannett Peak is the highest peak in the Wind River range and Wyoming. Craig will be sharing tales and photos from multiple excursions into this mountain range over the last 45 years.
The meeting location is the Idaho Fish & Game Headquarters in Boise, at 600 South Walnut Street, Boise 83712. But you won’t find us at the main front door. You will use a side door, on the river side, south-east side, of the building). (For someone facing the front entrance to the building, the entrance will be on the right side.) A club member will be available to open the locked door between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. that evening. So please plan to arrive during that half hour.
The Board will also be holding its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. that evening. Members are welcome to attend.
